Hanging Wire and a Girl
Hanging Wire and a Girl, Hanging wire, pencil, readymade, Dimensions variable, 2024The viewer's gaze is directed toward the hanging wire, appreciating its beauty. The canvas, placed on the floor with its back facing the viewer, creates confusion: is this a piece in the process of being installed, or has it accidentally fallen during the exhibition? On the wall surrounded by the hanging wire, a pencil-drawn face of a girl hints that this way of displaying the artwork is intentional on the part of the artist.
At the "National Taiwan Normal University Dequn Gallery," the exhibition walls strictly prohibit the use of drilling, nailing, or other methods that damage the surface. Thus, a hanging-wire-based installation is the only viable option here, making it a "site-specific creation."
Teh-Chun Sacred Teachings, Paper, photo frame, 2024The " Teh-Chun Art Gallery" is an art space available for free application by students of the department, but it is restricted by many outdated rules. For example, walls cannot be drilled, only hanging wires are allowed, and using highly adhesive materials that could damage the wall is prohibited. If anything needs to be pasted, only mild methods like masking tape can be used... These outdated rules also symbolize some of the features of the university. Learning art in such an environment led to the formation of this exhibition.
